Birth, Childhood & Education

By the grace of Sri Guru Granth Sahibji, Bhai Sahib Bhai Gurusharan Singh ji (Veer Jee) has emerged as a gurmat preacher, a selfless 'kirtania' and a selfless philanthropist of our times. He was born on 6th December 1974 at Gaya (Bihar) in the home of S. Amarjit Singh ji and Mata Charanjit kaur ji. By the grace of Satguru ji during his upbringing his parents inculcated on him the great spiritual and religious values preached by Guru Sahiban which are enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. He completed his primary education in Musoorie and received his higher education from Ludhiana (Punjab). He is married to Sardarni Gurpreet Kaur ji and is blessed with one daughter.

Sources of earnings/livelihood

To earn his livelihood he is working as advisor with Life Insurance Corporation of India. He has the honour of being the recipient of "Best performance award" for making considerable number of insurance policies in record time, breaking all the past records of LIC of India. Also, he has a combined business of auto body parts with his brother.

Beginning of Spiritual Journey

His spiritual journey started when he was only a teenager. He tells with great reverence that it was the kirtan and magnetic power of the personality of Bhai Sahib Bhai Guriqbal Singh ji (Gurudwara Mata Kaulan ji, Amritsar), which triggered in him the vision of becoming a religious soul, in order to serve the mankind by spreading the divine and eternal message of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. By the grace of Satguru ji, he took 'Amrit'(Khandey di pahul) and became Guruwala, when he was only eighteen years old.

Beginning to achieve goals

By the grace of Akal Purkh since childhood he was endowed with a desire to perform something, for the welfare of mankind. As a humble beginner, he thought of doing something which could serve both the purposes that is to preach 'Gurbani' and raise some money in order to utilize it for the noble cause. His choice fell on selling Gurbani cassettes. He started purchasing cassettes of 'Gurbani Kirtan' and used to put stalls at 'Kirtan Darbars' where devotees marked their presence in large number.

He spent numerous sleepless nights because sometimes the Kirtan Darbars were taking place on consecutive nights at various locations of the city. He used to carry a box full of Gurbani Kirtan cassettes. By loading it on his moped, he used to go from one kirtan Darbar to another and put stalls there. The cassettes were selling and the small amounts started flowing in. By the grace of Akal Purkh he succeeded in accumulating some amount of money, but this was not all. Because the tasks of welfare of mankind which Satguru ji wanted him to accomplish, needed the support of Sadh Sangat and a strong monetory basis.

A Nishkam Kirtania

So Satguru ji bestowed the grace on him and endowed in him the idea of learning Gurbani Kirtan - for making him more worthy of performing for the noble cause and getting the blessings of Sadh Sangat. Here again it was the personality of Bhai Sahib Bhai Guriqbal Singh ji which became his role model. He started learning harmonium from S. Harjit Singh ji, a music teacher and practised Kirtan for 18 long hours a day by putting his heart and soul in riaz. By the grace of Akal Purkh, very soon the time arrived when he performed Kirtan on the stage before Sadh Sangat. It was a successful attempt.

He recited the first shabad (Hymn) 'Mangna Mangan Neeka'. By this shabad of 'Gurbani' he begged from Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji only the admiration of Guru and Akal Purakh and service of mankind (Sewa) as a way of life and he was blessed so by Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. He dedicated himself to the service of mankind by spreading the message of 'Gurbani' through Kirtan. His kirtan programmes were increasing day by day.

By the grace of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji his distinct and melodious voice and the way of singing and explicating Gurbani earned him respect and popularity among the 'Sadh Sangat'. By the grace of Satguru ji, not only in Ludhiana, he gained tremendous name and fame by performing Kirtan in other cities of India, namely, Ponta Sahib, Gurudwara Taran Taran Sahib, Takhat Sri Patna Sahib, Delhi, Mumbai, Kanpur, Pune, Shimla, Yamunanagar etc. The 'Kirtan Bheta' by 'Sadh Sangat' was also becoming part of the funds which were being accumulated to be utilized for the noble cause.

Establishment of Bhai Daya Singh Ji (Nishkam) Satsang Sabha (Regd.)

By the grace of Guru Sahib and the blessings of Sadh Sangat, he made up his mind to dedicate himself to attune the people to Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and to spread the message of gurbani that the sole purpose of man's life was to utter the name of God and commit good deeds. The idea of working for the spiritual regeneration of human race in order to transform the impure souls to pious souls, occupied his mind entirely. But he felt that he alone could not accomplish the huge tasks before him. Therefore in order to have the support of Sadh Sangat and some other pious people (Gurmukh Jan), by the grace of Satguru ji, he founded an institution in the name of 'First Piara' of Khlasa Panth - Bhai Daya Singh ji. The institution was named as Bhai Daya Singh Ji (Nishkam) Satsang Sabha (Regd.) and it started planning for the noble cause, keeping in mind, the golden principles of 'Sewa', 'Simran', and 'Sarbhat da Bhala', preached by ten guru Sahiban.

A 'Simran Sadhna' organizer

Keeping in mind the profound connotations and significance of "Simran Sadhna", Bhai Gursharan Singh Ji organized "Simran Sadhna" programmes in order to elevate people spiritually in this age of materialism. In the beginning, the "Simran Sadhna" programmes were held in the homes of devotees, daily at "Amrit Vele"( Early morning hours). The number of devotees participating in these programmes was increasing day by day. Later on it was realized that owing to these programmes being held in homes of the devotees, the presence of devotees in gurudwara sahibs of the city was reduced considerably.<>Keeping in mind the "Gurmat" principles that "sangat" should congregate in gurudwara sahibs for "Simran", it was decided to shift "Simran Sadhna" programmes to gurudwara sahibs of the city.

These "Simran Sadhna" programmes are held for one week (Monday to Sunday)) at one gurudwara sahib, then the programme is shifted to another nearby gurudwara sahib of the city. In this way the "sangat" of entire city is becoming aware of the significance of "Simran Sadhna" and is becoming part of it. 200-250 regular devotees participate in these programmes daily and this number is increasing day by day. Not only in Ludhiana "Simran Sadhna" programmes are held in other cities of India also, wherever Bhai Sahib Bhai Gursharan Singh Ji go for performing kirtan.

An 'Amrit Sanchar' inspirer

As a nishkam kirtania, Bhai Gursharan Singh ji, while singing and explicating Gurbani has always been preaching the teachings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji to Sikh Sangat that without partaking of "Amrit" from "Panj Piaras", none can gain entry into the fold of "Sikhism". He has made tremendous efforts to inspire Sikh Sangat to take "Amrit". He has always preached the message of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji that if you want to cleanse your souls which have become impure through the ages and by committing bad deeds, you should take "Amrit" and become Guruwala. With the grace of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, he has been organizing Amrit Sanchar Progammes in large number in Ludhiana and in other cities of India, wherever he goes for performing kirtan. Currently the Amrit Sanchar are held on the occasion Annual Gurmat Samagam and at gurudwara Sri Kalgidhar Singh Sabha, Field Ganj, Ludhiana. By the grace of Satguru Ji not only in Ludhiana, thousands from amongst sangat have taken Amrit and have become Guruwala with the efforts of Bhai Gursharan Singh Ji.

A selfless founder of Charitable Hospitals

By the grace of Akal Purkh and blessings of Sadh Sanagat, the money earned from selling cassettes and 'Kirtan Bheta' by 'Sadh Sangat' added up to become an amount which was sufficient to give him a thought of utilizing it on philanthropic deeds. Some philanthropic deeds like: helping the economically backward people to marry off their daughters, sending relief to Gujarat earthquake and Tsunami victims were done by Bhai Daya Singh Ji Nishkam Satsang Sabha (Regd.) under the guidance of Bhai Sahib Bhai Gurusharan Singh ji. But there was an idea of building a charitable hospital lurking in his mind to serve the mankind on regular basis. When asked how this idea came to his mind, he answered, "it was again the inspiration of Bhai Sahib Bhai Guriqbal Singh ji, he advised me to open a hospital and with the grace of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, the hospital came into existence".

Another reason for opening a hospital as told by him is that his father was suffering from kidney disease and during his treatment in various hospitals, he had very unpleasant and painful experiences. He saw the common man suffering very badly at the hands of doctors because the treatments given by them were very costly and quite unaffordable to the common man. He felt the necessity of building a charitable hospital which would provide treatments affordable to the downtrodden and economically weaker sections of society.

He struggled hard day and night, to raise funds which were required in abundance. During his kirtan programmes, he unfolded his mind to sangat and apprised them of the plans of building a charitable hospital. By the grace of Satguru Ji and the blessings of Sadh Sangat, a network of donors came into existence, which proved as a great help in completing the project of hospital. And at last with the grace of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and blessings of Sadh Sangat, the hospital became ready and the inauguration of Bhai Daya Singh Ji (Charitable) hospital was done on the birthday of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji in January 2004. Since then the hospital is running very successfully at 379 - E, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Ludhiana.

Second hospital

t is rightly said that the fruit of service of mankind is to be blessed with more opportunities to serve the mankind . So By the grace of Satguru ji Bhai Sahib Bhai Gursharan Singh Ji with the support of other members and some magnanimous donors, got the opportunity of building a second charitable hospital named Bhai Daya Singh Ji Charitable Hospital Unit II, at Prem Vihar, Tibba Road near Tajpur Road, Ludhiana. This area is populated by very poor section of society. The people of this area were devoid of medical facilities absolutely and had since long been waiting for someone to come forward and listen to their woes. By the grace of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Bhai Gursharan Singh Ji appeared on the seen and accomplished this tough task of providing best medical treatments, with latest machinery and able doctors at charitable rates to the people of this area. By the grace of Satguru ji, this hospital has been opened in the service of mankind in December 2007.

Idea of establishment of a school
