Historical Background of Amrit Sanchar:
Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, on the occasion of Baisakhi of 1699 A.D., chose “Panj Piaras” who rose at the call of Guru Sahib to offer their heads, and created “Khalsa Panth”. At this historical occasion of great importance Guru Sahib prepared “Amrit” (Khande Di Pahul) by reciting five “Banis” namely, Japji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Tav Prasad Savaiye, Chaupai Sahib and Anand Sahib and baptized those chosen five Sikhs with it.
Amrit is compulsory:
After that Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji took “Amrit” from “Panj Piaras”. From that day, to take “Amrit” (Khande Di Pahul) from “Panj Piaras” was made compulsory by Guru Sahib for coming into the fold of “Khalsa”. In this connection Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji has clearly given directives in one of the “Rehatnamas” (Manual for code of conduct) ” Pratham Rehat Eh Jaan Khande Ki Pahul Chhake”.
